Join us in welcoming Peter Abrahamsen as the first speaker of our Summer 2025 Native Plant & Pollinator Speaker Series! Peter is an active member of the Washington Native Bee Society and has done extensive work throughout San Juan County. Learn more about Peter below:
“I started out as many of us do, learning the names of the wildflowers I saw on hikes, and deepening my connection to my home land. Volunteering to monitor wildflowers on Rainier gave me an inkling of the complexity and fragility of our ecosystem. After flowers, bees were the next piece of a puzzle that felt increasingly vital to understand.
As they are for many of us, Bumble Bees were my gateway to the world of native bees. I have identified over 15,000 Bumble Bees on the citizen science platform iNaturalist, and taught workshops for the Master Melittologist program at Oregon State University Extension. I am also a teacher with the Washington Bee Atlas, a legislatively mandated, volunteer-driven program to identify the 550-650 bee species living in Washington and the flowers on which they depend.”
This talk will be held in person at the LIHT Resource Center and will also be live-streamed via Zoom. Stay tuned for details on how to register to attend virtually!
