Strategic Priorities and Goals
Land Protection, Conservation, and Stewardship: To preserve and care for open space, native habitat, wildlife, and natural resources on lands owned/managed by LIHT.
Lead a science-based approach to understanding climate change on LIHT property and on Lummi Island.
Protect land through donation, purchase, and science-based stewardship.
Community Engagement & Education: To encourage community involvement and support for land conservation and stewardship.
Organize and offer programs and events that support LIHT’s mission and vision.
Connect people to land preservation and stewardship through environmental educational programs.
Expand, enhance, and adapt outreach programs that benefit the island community.
Financial Management: To assure the fiscal integrity of the LIHT and the fiduciary responsibility of the Board.
Provide guidance and oversight of annual budget.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and LTA re-accreditation standards.
Develop and implement a policy to manage invested funds and to protect organizational assets.
Manage financial risk.
Fund Development: To assure adequate funding support for the long-term sustainability of LIHT.
Develop and oversee the annual fundraising plan.
Engage long-term endowment funding.
Build fundraising capacity for board and staff.
Organizational Effectiveness and Governance: To provide continuous and capable leadership that assures sustainability and effectiveness.
Oversee compliance with requirements to maintain non-profit and accreditation status.
Support effectiveness and diversity in the board, staff, and committees.
Provide annual oversight of Conflict-of-Interest statements and Risk Management Tasks.
Identify, articulate, and help update directions for addressing emerging issues and challenges, including those presented at the LIHT November 2022 Retreat.
