Great Days to Grow a Forest
We are so grateful to the 80 volunteers who came out on a gorgeous weekend in March to take on an incredible, inspirational challenge: to plant 800 trees in what had recently been a sterile mine floor. Our board chair and retired forester, Scott Josiah, planned a forest to suit the terrain, and he selected tree species that will nourish and support each other as this brand-new forest grows. Our intrepid volunteers then came and matched the tree species to the colored flags that our stewardship heroes, Abby and Jamie, had laid out the week before.
There are few things that are more optimistic and inspiring than coming together with neighbors and friends to help to heal a place with trees. It was an incredible gift, and we are enormously thankful.
