Executive Director

The Executive Director is the chief executive officer and public face of the Lummi Island Heritage Trust (LIHT). The Executive Director provides leadership in achieving LIHT’s mission, ensuring organizational resilience and sustainability, supervising staff, and supporting the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible to the board:  job performance is reviewed annually by the Board Chair and the Chair of the Governance Committee. 

This is a full-time position based out of the LIHT office on Lummi Island. 

The successful Executive Director will:

  • Create and direct marketing, branding, development and fundraising strategies to increase revenue from individuals, major donors, foundations, corporations and government agencies.

  • Ensure the financial health of the organization, including preparation, presentation and alignment of the annual budget, consistent with approved strategic plan and work plans, and oversight of financial operations and performance of contract obligations.

  • Provide strategic leadership and action for the organization as a whole, engaging staff, board and stakeholders in effective planning and implementation efforts.

  • Establish and maintain efficient and cost-effective office operations and procedures. 

  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate employees, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of their work in an inclusive environment and positive culture.

  • Ensure effective engagement and support of board members through regular communication, planning, presentations, staff support and follow-up.

  • Evaluate stewardship and community outreach needs to identify priorities and meet goals set in strategic and annual plans.

  • Reach out to partner organizations with related missions, identifying opportunities to strengthen existing efforts and initiating new ways to achieve common interests.  Maintain strong relationships with donors, partners, the neighboring Lummi Nation and the island community.

  • Represent the organization in statewide, regional, national and other conservation forums designed to further permanent land conservation.
